A deep dive beneath the sea that was planned to investigate a shipwreck ended with an astonishing discovery: a juvenile bigfin squid was discovered about 6,212 meters below the ocean’s surface. What’s remarkable about this sighting is that it suggests that squids’ biological web is considerably wider than previously imagined — and that there’s probably a lot more life in the unknown ocean depths than we anticipated.
