Self-reporting information will be accessible once you complete the Quiz.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is increasingly driving change in the construction industry, one of the most significant contributors to carbon emissions. From the extraction of resources to building demolition at the end of the life cycle, the decisions made about building design, materials, construction processes, operational and maintenance practices, and waste disposal impact the amount of carbon emitted and contribute to global warming.

LCA is an evolving discipline that is refined each year and made possible through the development of new building modeling, assessment, and building management tools. It is embracing new technologies such as artificial intelligence and driving the implementation of green building standards and building certification, like LEED. LCA has challenges, but it will be the key to significantly reducing the built environment’s carbon emissions.

What you will learn

  1. Define the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of buildings
  2. Discuss how LCA informs building design and materials choices
  3. Debate the use of technologies (ie. artificial intelligence) in LCA
  4. Explore the relationship of LCA and achieving green building standards
  5. Describe the LCA challenges
  6. Present real-world applications of LCA
